FAQ
Questions about ContextMail
What it costs, what the plan includes, what Assist and Smart Inbox do, and what it can’t do yet.
What is ContextMail?
ContextMail is email with an AI that reads every message as it arrives, sums it up in one line, and sorts it so the few that need you sit on top. You get your own address at contextmail.net, and Assist, a panel where you ask about your mail or tell it what to do.
How is ContextMail different from other email?
ContextMail reads with context. Before it sorts a message it checks what it already has on the sender and the thread, and every message says why it was filed where it was. The messages that matter are saved as short excerpts in your private ContextStream memory, so the AI tools you connect, such as Claude and Cursor, can recall them. And Assist answers from your own messages, links the ones it used, files and drafts only as far as you allow, and never sends anything for you.
How much does ContextMail cost?
$5 a month, or $50 a year (about $4.17 a month, two months free). The plan includes one mailbox with 10 GB of storage, three more addresses that deliver to the same mailbox, sending to up to 200 recipients a day, 20 Assist requests a day, and Smart Inbox reading of up to 200 messages a day.
Do I get an address at contextmail.net?
Yes. You choose a name, for example sam@contextmail.net. An address can’t be renamed, but you can add three more that deliver to the same mailbox.
How do I get started?
Choose your address on contextmail.net, make your account, and pick a plan. Your mailbox opens as soon as you have paid.
Can I use my Gmail, Outlook or other existing address with ContextMail?
Not yet. ContextMail gives you its own address at contextmail.net. Connecting other providers’ accounts, using your own domain, and reading your mail in another app over IMAP or SMTP are not available.
What is Assist?
Assist is the panel where you ask about your mail or tell it what to do: find messages, file them, flag them, make folders and rules, and set reminders. It never sends mail by itself: a reply or a new message opens as a draft for you to read and send. You approve each action, or switch on “Act without asking” for the routine ones. The plan includes 20 Assist requests a day.
What does Smart Inbox do?
Smart Inbox reads each new message, writes a one-line summary, and sorts it, so the few messages that need you appear first. You see the line first and open the full letter when it matters. Past 200 messages a day your rules and your own filing still sort new mail, and summaries pause until the next day.
Do I need a ContextStream account?
ContextMail uses a ContextStream account, and signing up on contextmail.net makes one for you. ContextStream is the platform ContextMail is built on. If you already have a ContextStream Pro, Elite or Team plan, a ContextMail address comes with it.
What is ContextStream, and why is ContextMail built on it?
ContextStream is the context layer for AI tools: it keeps what your tools need to know about your work, so they don’t start from nothing each session. ContextMail is built on it, which is why your ContextMail account is a ContextStream account. You don’t need to use any ContextStream tools to use ContextMail; connecting them is optional, and your mail works the same either way.
What does ContextMail save to my ContextStream memory?
Messages that Smart Inbox puts in your inbox, and mail from people it recognises as customers, partners, investors, support or individuals, are saved as a note in your own ContextStream memory, and so is any message you mark with a priority. A note holds the sender, the subject, the date, how the message was sorted and the start of its text, about 600 characters in all. Newsletters, promotions and notifications are not saved unless you mark them. The notes are stored as personal memory, so other members of a workspace can’t read them.
Can I send and download attachments?
Not yet. ContextMail shows that a message has attachments, but it can’t download them or attach files to messages you send.
Where is my mail stored, and is it encrypted?
Mailboxes are stored on servers in the United States, on encrypted disks, and copied to a second location every five minutes.
Who makes ContextMail?
ContextMail is made by ContextStream, the company behind the ContextStream platform at contextstream.io.
